Georgia earned a surprise commitment in the class of 2026 on Friday afternoon.

The Bulldogs have landed 4-star defensive back Chace Calicut, who was previously expected to commit to Texas. Instead, the Lone Star State product will head to Athens to begin his college career next year.

“There’s not a better program producing [defensive backs] than UGA,” Calicut told On3’s Hayes Fawcett. “Dawg nation I’m home!”

Calicut is a huge pickup for the Bulldogs. He’s the No. 162 overall player and the No. 13 safety in the country for the class of 2026, per 247Sports Composite rankings. He’s also the No. 23 player from the state of Texas.

Calicut attends North Shore High School in Houston. He’s listed at 6-foot-3, 190 pounds so he has tremendous size as a defensive back in the SEC.

Georgia seems to be putting together one of the very best high school recruiting classes in the cycle this offseason. Calicut’s decision means the Bulldogs now have 23 commits in the class of 2026. Overall the group ranks No. 3 nationally, per 247Sports Composite rankings.
