Georgia coach Kirby Smart won’t take hands-off approach after slow start

Georgia coach Kirby Smart is all over the place at practices. The first-year coach spends time with the offense, defense and special teams units during each session.
He said as much at a season-opening press conference, but after a disappointing start to the season, Smart was asked Tuesday if he needed to step back his involvement in certain areas:
“No, absolutely not,” Smart said. “I think I’ve got to be just as much hands-on with everything.”
Smart said he’ll continue to stay very involved in practice to try to turn things around:
“Absolutely there’s a balance. And I think that balance really has been reached,” Smart said. “I feel comfortable with the amount of time I’m able to spend with each component (offense, defense and special teams). …
“We’ve got to do better in each one. We’ve got to perform better in each one. We’ve got to execute better. We’ve got to get the young players to play better. We’ve got to get less penalties. There’s so many areas we can improve on. That has nothing to do with the balance of time that I spend.”
Georgia has a bye this week to try right the ship before traveling to Jacksonville to take on the Florida Gators.
