Georgia DE arrested on marijuana charge for second time in a little over a month

Georgiaย freshman defensive end Chauncey Rivers was arrested on aย marijuana charge for the second time in 38 days.

According to an Athens-Clarke County jail booking report,ย Rivers was arrested at 1:12 a.m. on Saturday morning for possession of one ounce or less of marijuana, which is a misdemeanor. As of 7:25ย a.m., Rivers was listed as โ€œcurrently incarcerated,โ€ according to jail records. His bond has been set at $1,000.

Rivers was already suspended earlier this season for a separate incident involving marijuana, missing the Kentucky game in Week 10. At that time, he was arrested for possession of marijuana, also a misdemeanor charge,ย after admitting to smokingย in a campus parking lot with teammateย Natrez Patrick on Nov. 7. Patrick was also suspended for the game against the Wildcats.

According to the UGA student-athlete handbook,ย Rivers is subjected to a suspension of โ€œno less than 30 percent of the total sport season.โ€ He will also have to complete 40 hours of community service and โ€œwill attend substance abuse counseling and evaluation sessions.”

The 6-foot-3, 272-pound pass rusher was rated as the No. 127 overall prospect out of Stephenson High School in Stone Mountain, Ga., in the Class of 2015 and was rated aย four-star recruit. He’s playedย in four games this season and has registered 4ย tackles with a tackle for loss.
