When it comes to big-time college sports, the person who is at the top of any given athletic department is likely to have the biggest impact on the successes or failures of the various sports programs at that school.
The University of Georgia has seen a good deal of success across a number of different sports over the past several years, and a large part of that success has been due to the leadership of athletic director Josh Brooks.
This success hasn’t gone unnoticed by the powers that be down in Athens, either, as Georgia beat writer Marc Weiszer reported on Monday that the university has given Brooks an extension that will keep him in place through 2031.
This comes just 2 years removed from Brooks’ first extension with the school, which was signed back in 2023 and was slated to run through 2030. This new deal will tack on an extra year to that original extension, and will also come with a bump in pay from $1.525 million to $1.75 million annually.
Brooks has been with Georgia since 2016 and took over as the full-time AD back in 2021. Since taking the top job, he’s brought on a number of successful coaches, including head baseball coach Wes Johnson, men’s basketball head coach Mike White, and track and field head coach Caryl Smith-Gilbert.
Georgia has won multiple SEC and national championships in football, track and field, tennis, and equestrian under Brooks’ stewardship, and he has also been the driving force behind major upgrades to a number of facilities in use across campus.
