A key player on Georgia’s defense is expected to miss time following shoulder surgery he had after the Peach Bowl.

Nakobe Dean had surgery on his right shoulder to repair a labrum injury, according to Dayne Young of UGASports.com. Dean is expected to miss spring football, but is not in jeopardy of missing summer workouts or beyond. Even though he was injured, Dean played in all but one snap against Cincinnati.

The sophomore finished the 2020 season with a team-high 71 tackles and 1.5 sacks, and is expected to be a key player on the Bulldogs defense in 2021.

He made a career-high 15 tackles against Florida, and was a semifinalist for the Butkus Award, which recognizes the nation’s best linebacker. He started all 10 games and played 76 percent of Georgia’s total defensive snaps in the regular season, according to his Georgia bio.

The Horn Lake, Mississippi native was an elite blue chip prospect coming out of high school. He was named the 2018 High School Butkus Award winner as the nation’s top prep LB, and selected for the 2019 Under Armour All-America Game, as well as being chosen as the 2018-19 Gatorade High School Football Player in Mississippi. He was a 247Sports 5-star prospect, and ranked as the No. 1 inside linebacker nationally, No. 14 overall prospect nationally and the No. 1 prospect in Mississippi.
