As the Sugar Bowl wound down in the fourth quarter, Georgia got away with what was a blatant facemask on a Kewan Lacy run. So egregious, even the Georgia radio broadcast had to note that they got away with one.

With just under six and a half minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, Ole Miss led 34-31 and was looking to put the game out of reach for the Bulldogs. On a 2nd and 3, the Rebels handed the ball off to their star running back, Kewan Lacy. His head twisted around, and Lacy lost yardage on the play. Immediately, the Georgia radio broadcast called out the facemask and noted that there was no flag in sight.

“Snap to Chambliss. We hand it off to Lacy, grab his face mask, and twist him around. I don’t see a flag yet,” the Georgia radio broadcast said. “Looked like they grabbed his face mask. There’s no flag. His head twisted around.”

After watching the replay of the play, it was clearer to the Georgia radio broadcast just how much they got away with on that play.

“Maybe we just grabbed him right inside the shoulder pads, right underneath the face mask, and it just looked like it,” the Georgia announcers said as they looked on the replay. “Nope. We grabbed the face mask. We got away with one.”

Ole Miss would have to punt on this drive after an incompletion on third down. Georgia then got the ball and tied up the game 34-34.
