Germie Bernard gets Alabama on the board with 2-yard TD run
Germie Bernard has been a terror through the air for Alabama so far this season, but early in Saturday’s home matchup against Wisconsin, Bernard did his damage on the ground.
The 19th-ranked Crimson Tide were in danger of coming up empty on the long first-quarter drive as they tried to strike early at Bryant-Denny Stadium. Alabama was at the Wisconsin 2-yard line, but it was 4th-and-1, and not getting any points would’ve been a major disappointment for a team trying to get itself back in order going into the SEC gauntlet.
Enter Bernard, who far and away led Alabama in receiving coming into Week 3, with Ryan Williams struggling and injured in the first 2 weeks. Bernard took a handoff this week and tried to sneak around the Wisconsin defense as he ran toward the corner of the end zone. It was a struggle, but Bernard got into the end zone, and the 11-play, 61-yard drive ended like Bama wanted it to end.
The drive took 6:29 off the clock and gave the Tide a 7-0 lead in the nonconference showdown on ABC.
Here is Bernard’s latest contribution to the Bama offense:
There was a long way to go still in Tuscaloosa on Saturday, but Bernard gave Bama an early boost, and now it was up to the Tide to add to that lead in the 2nd quarter.
