Goldberg knows all about life as a college football player and a professional athlete.

Given the name Bill Goldberg, the former Georgia defender went on to have a Hall of Fame career as a WWE wrestler. Now closing in on retirement, Goldberg was recently asked his opinion about NIL during an interview with FOX5 in Atlanta.

“I’d probably make a little bit, I think because I have an affinity to put an entertaining video together,” Goldberg said about his potential opportunities had NIL been around when he was in school.

“It’s like open warfare. It’s crazy,” continued Goldberg. “My son’s doing things that I’m doing right now. NIL (deals) are things that I prosper from at the moment, so it’s amazing where we’ve come.”

His son, Gage Goldberg, is currently a linebacker at Colorado. During his true freshman season, the younger Goldberg appeared in 3 games with a tackle.

Overall, the elder Goldberg wants to see players get paid, but he’s not on board with 6 and 7-figure deals for players before they’ve seen the field in college football.

“I do believe they need to get paid, there’s no question about it. But paying hundreds of thousands of dollars or millions of dollars to these kids before they actually hit the field? Eh, that’s different,” said Goldberg. “… It has to be cleaned up, but the state of college football is kind of up in the air.”
