Good news for Auburn? Top QB target decommits from Virginia Tech

Auburn’s top quarterback target, 4-star dual-threat signal caller Dematrius Davis (Houston, Texas), announced Wednesday that he was decommitting from Virginia Tech.
“I will be decomitting from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. I will still be taking an official visit to Blacksburg. [I] want to make sure I am making the right decision for me and my family. Respect my decision,” Davis said in the statement.
Davis had been committed to Virginia Tech since November, but things have changed.
Since being hired at Auburn as the team’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, Chad Morris has made Davis a priority target, and now, it appears the Tigers are closer to the goal of landing his commitment. Most project AU to be the favorite.
Davis is ranked as the nation’s No. 133 overall prospect, the No. 6 dual-threat quarterback and the state of Texas’ No. 21 overall prospect for the class of 2021, according to 247Sports Composite Rankings.
Last season, Davis threw for 2,393 yards and 30 touchdowns, while rushing for 1,171 yards leading his high school team, North Shore, to a state championship. He’s 38-2 as a high school starter.
Currently, Auburn has 4 commitments for the class of 2021 and no quarterbacks. Davis is one to keep an eye on for the Tigers.
