The focus for Alabama right now is avoiding a disastrous 2025 season after the stunning Week 1 loss at then-unranked Florida State. However, the 2026 slate is now in discussion because of the SEC’s announcement that conference scheduling will increase to 9 games.
Alabama has already canceled its series against West Virginia and subbed it out for a 2026 home contest vs. East Carolina. Now Alabama AD Greg Byrne is saying there’s going to have to be 1 more change to the 2026 schedule. Yet, Byrne didn’t disclose what the change would be or when it would be revealed.
Scheduling conversations happen regularly,” Byrne told TuscaloosaNews.com. “We still have 1 adjustment to make for the 2026 schedule.
Alabama’s non-conference slate for 2026 is already full with contests vs. East Carolina, South Florida, and Florida State along with the 9-game SEC schedule. The Tuscaloosa News points out that switching the South Florida or Florida State game or merely rescheduling the dates could be a possibility.
Byrne added that there are years beyond next season to sort out as well in tandem with head coach Kalen DeBoer, who is currently under fire from boosters.
In matters more immediately pressing, No. 21 Alabama will aim to avoid a losing streak when UL Monroe comes to town for a Week 2 matchup (7:45 p.m. ET/SEC Network).
