Alabama beat Vanderbilt this past weekend, 30-14, and Greg McElroy believes that UA’s defensive adjustments were key to coming out of this matchup with a victory.

The Alabama defense showed out against Vanderbilt this past weekend. It held Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia to just 198 yards passing on 21 of 35 passes. The defense did not allow a single point in the second half, helping the Crimson Tide score 16 unanswered points.

Alabama’s defense also caused 2 turnovers, 1 fumble recovery, and 1 interception.

McElroy went on to credit UA’s defensive adjustments for making life hard for Pavia and the Commodores.

“This was really all about Alabama’s defensive adjustments,” McElroy said. “Alabama did a great job, I think, especially there in the second half with eyes defensively…But I do think that Alabama has a good staff that made key adjustments and made some significant changes to make life difficult on Vandy.”

The Alabama defense held the Commodores to 5-for-11 on 3rd down and 0-for-1 on 4th down. While it did allow Vanderbilt running back Sedrick Alexander to gain 76 yards on just 4 carries, in the second half, it took that big play away and slowed down the rushing attack of the Commodores.
