Greg McElroy projects whether Alabama will look like a national title contender this week

Greg McElroy believes that Alabama can recover from last week’s loss to Tennessee and it will start with a win this week against Mississippi State.
McElroy points out that Mississippi State (5-2, 2-2) has often been the opponent for the Crimson Tide when they are coming off of a loss. It’s happened four times. He also mentions that Alabama has outscored Mississippi State 150-16 in their past four games against each other.
“They just always happen to be in a position where Alabama is really ticked off…last year they played Mississippi State after they play [Texas] A&M.”
“I hate the matchup for Mississippi State. Hate it.”
One weakness Alabama has shown this year is in defending the downfield passing game. Hendon Hooker torched the Bama secondary last week and Texas’ Quinn Ewers was on the same trajectory until Dallas Turner injured on a hit.
McElroy, however, doesn’t believe Mississippi State’s style of offense will be able to exploit that weakness.
“Mississippi State’s offensive identity is dinks and dunks…when they throw the ball it on average travels five and a half yards down the field. That’s how short it is.”
“Will Rogers was running for his life last year and I don’t know if it’s going to be that different this year.”
In general McElroy believes the Crimson Tide are still heavily in the mix and will get back on track this week.
