Greg McElroy believes there could be SEC Championship Game implications when Oklahoma hosts LSU in late November.

McElroy made a point to highlight that game on the latest episode of Always College Football. He said there’s a chance that the winner of that contest could end up representing the SEC in the conference title game — and thus, likely, the College Football Playoff.

“That game on Nov. 29, LSU at Oklahoma, that might be one of the best games on the SEC calendar right now,” McElroy said. “Not a lot of people are looking at Oklahoma and thinking they’re an SEC contender, I think they are. I obviously think LSU is as well. That game could mean an awful lot, so circle that one on Nov. 29. LSU at Oklahoma. That one could potentially, potentially decide whether or not one of those two teams might represent in the SEC Championship Game.”

Neither LSU nor Oklahoma is widely considered to be an elite team going into the 2025 season. There are more expectations for LSU, however, as the Tigers return quarterback Garrett Nussmeier and a few other players from a 2024 team that showed promise but ultimately fell short of its goals.

Oklahoma would be taking a massive step forward if it is still in the CFP picture come late November. The Sooners have largely struggled during the Brent Venables era and managed just 2 SEC wins last season during its first campaign in the conference.

LSU is currently 4th in betting odds to win the SEC this season, per the latest odds from bet365. The Tigers are listed at +1000. Oklahoma is more of a long-shot at +3500. If you’re interested in betting on either of those numbers, here’s everything you need to know to pick the Louisiana sports betting app that’s right for you.

LSU is 3-1 all-time against Oklahoma. However, the Sooners and Tigers have never played in Norman before so the 2025 matchup will be a first in that regard.
