Gus Malzahn discusses how Auburn is handling recruiting during COVID-19 pandemic

During this unprecedented time, college coaches are having to adjust their normal recruiting practices drastically.
On Tuesday, Auburn coach Gus Malzahn was asked how he’s handling the changes, and he gave his opinion.
Per Malzahn, the Tigers are enjoying getting to know recruits and their families a bit better, but are still anxious to get players to campus (via 247Sports):
“On FaceTime, a little Zoom,” Malzahn said when asked about how he’s been recruiting guys. “The positive is that there’s a lot of time to recruit, and we’re getting to know these recruits and their families really good right now and just trying to get plans to get them on campus once things go back to normal.”
Malzahn credited technology for making recruiting possible right now, but added that nothing replaces the experience of actually visiting Auburn:
“That is a challenge,” Malzahn said. “But FaceTime, technology really helps. Anytime you can look somebody in the eye and have a conversation and develop a relationship. I think the technology is good right now to be able to do that, but it’s nothing like the real thing.
“Auburn is such a special place. When you get someone on campus at a place like Auburn, you can really connect, and that’s been the challenge. But we’re just trying to make the best of it right now.”
How much longer will it be until the social distancing guidelines are relaxed? We’ll find out over the next few months.
