Week 1 of the SEC football season featured a number of action-packed matchups that gave everybody in the nation an early look at what to expect from the best conference in college football in 2025.
Several programs set themselves apart with elite performances over quality opponents, while others struggled to get things going in the right direction during their first action of the new campaign.
All of this has led to analysts and fans alike making predictions on how they believe the rest of the year will play out, and ESPN’s Heather Dinich is no exception, as she joined Get Up on Wednesday morning to discuss her post-Week 1 thoughts on the state of the SEC Championship race.
“Let me be perfectly honest here, this is wide open,” Dinich said. “We don’t know about Georgia, okay? This Georgia team could be very good. I said weeks ago that I thought Auburn was going to beat Alabama in the Iron Bowl, is Auburn going to surprise anybody?… It’s very early, but yes, if I had to project the SEC Champ today, it’s going to be LSU because they are going to be the most complete team with that defense.”
It’s hard to argue with Dinich’s pick in LSU at this point, given the performance they had against Clemson in week 1, but she’s also correct in her assessment about the conference being wide open.
Several teams are more than capable of punching their ticket to Atlanta come December, so it will be very interesting to see how things shape up as the season rolls along.
