Hugh Freeze jokingly addresses sign-stealing vs. Mississippi State: ‘We did a poor job’
Hugh Freeze has some work to do to catch up to Michigan’s sign-stealing abilities.
After Auburn’s matchup with Mississippi State that saw the Tigers come out on top 27-13, Freeze was asked if managed to steal any of Mississippi State’s signs throughout the game.
Freeze jokingly gave an answer, saying that if they had managed to steal signs, perhaps Mississippi State wouldn’t have had the strong second half that it put together.
“We did a poor job if we did,” Freeze said during the SEC coaches teleconference Wednesday. “They had more yards and more explosive plays in the second half than in the first.”
Freeze addressed sign stealing in today’s college football, giving an honest answer about it. He said that if you can do it legally, you might as well.
“Thereโs no secret, I think every single team is trying to gain an advantage on game day within the rules of looking across the sideline,” Freeze said. “Itโd be foolish not to. Itโd be like telling your kids to line up but donโt look at what defense youโre supposed to run a route against, but we obviously didnโt do a good job if that was the case in stopping them. We didnโt have very good signals.”
Auburn is looking for another win this weekend after getting back on track on Saturday against Mississippi State. The Tigers managed to snap a 4-game losing streak, and now they’re trying to form a winning streak as they take on Vanderbilt.
