Mizzou is fresh off of a 82-58 drubbing of Oklahoma on Wednesday night.
The performance was understandably impressive to Sooners coach Porter Moser, who had plenty of praise for the Tigers after the game. Moser, who previously led Loyola-Chicago to a Final Four run before moving to Norman, said Missouri’s offense did a good job of making Oklahoma pay for its mistakes.
“I really feel they’re a team that can make a deep, deep run,” Moser said after the game. “I’ve said that and I know what a Final Four [team] looks like. They’re very good on both sides. I think they pose really tough problems defensively because they’re constantly turning you over with their positional size, their effort, their relentlessness.
“But when you’ve got that many guys that can shoot it … you know we had to make a decision if you’re single-covering Mitchell or not. And he made us pay. We held them to 4 3’s, but the other areas of the game, we really struggled. Guarding the ball and guarding [Mark] Mitchell one-on-one and sending them to the foul line 35 times. When you shoot the ball the way they do, they’ve got shooters everywhere. They play really, really hard.”
Here’s video of Moser’s comments:
Indeed, Mizzou is one of the better 3-point shooting teams in the country. The Tigers are shooting north of 38% from range during SEC play, which ranks 3rd in the conference. They only made 4 3-pointers against Oklahoma on Wednesday night, but they punished the Sooners in other areas. Mitchell poured in 25 points and went to the foul line a staggering 18 times in Missouri’s win.
As for the Final Four proclamation, the betting markets don’t currently view Mizzou as a leading contender. At bet365, the Tigers are +1800 to reach this year’s Final Four.
