Jah-Marien Latham was transported to a hospital on Tuesday after the Alabama senior linebacker injured his neck during practice, according to the Crimson Tide football program.

In a statement by Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer that was released early Tuesday night, Latham was transported to UAB St. Vincent’s Hospital for “further evaluation and care” after sustaining the neck injury. According to DeBoer, the injury could’ve been much worse as the 17th-ranked Crimson Tide prepare to face No. 5 Georgia on Saturday night in Athens.

“We are pleased to report that Jah has full feeling and motion, and he is currently undergoing a thorough medical assessment to determine the next steps in his recovery,” DeBoer said in a statement to Yea Alabama. “Our top priority is Jah’s health and well-being. We are in close contact with his family, and the medical team and I will continue to support him in every way possible.”

DeBoer and the Alabama staff said they would provide further updates on Latham when they’re appropriate.

Latham has been a part of the Alabama football program since 2020, which was the season affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. He’s an in-state product from Reform, Ala., who has registered 2 tackles so far this season, with both of them coming in the season-opening loss at Florida State.

Last season, Latham recorded 28 tackles, 13 of them solo, with 1 sack and 1 fumble recovery.
