Ja’Marr Chase reveals Les Miles told him he ‘couldn’t play receiver’

Ja’Marr Chase won the Biletnikoff Award as the nation’s best wide receiver during the 2019 college football season, helping LSU win the national championship.
This year, he’s likely to be the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year after helping fellow ex-Tiger star Joe Burrow lead the Cincinnati Bengals to the AFC Championship Game.
But, apparently, former LSU coach Les Miles didn’t think Chase could cut it at receiver. Chase shared the story of Miles’ comments during a press conference on Wednesday:

“I can tell you honestly, one of my best stories ever,” Chase said. “Les Miles told me I couldn’t play receiver when I was coming out of high school. So that was something I had on my shoulders growing up. Les Miles told me he thought I could play cornerback. I wasn’t really a full position at receiver yet. So I just kept working at my craft, offseason, waking up early in the mornings to work out. I just kept focused.”
Safe to say Les Miles has been proven wrong on that one, as Chase is already one of the best young receivers in the NFL. And, he’s only a rookie, so the future is bright for him in Cincinnati.
