Jason McIntyre concerned Texas was ‘hiding’ Arch Manning at end of 2024 season

It’s no secret that Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning has been one of the most-hyped college players the sport has seen in recent memory for both better and worse.

The combination of immense talent and the legendary last name he wears across his back has led fans and analysts alike to anoint Manning as the next great gun slinger in a dynasty filled with Hall of Famers.

While most of the coverage surrounding Arch has been rather glowing over the past several years, some have grown skeptical of how highly the redshirt sophomore has been hyped.

One person who falls into this category is Fox Sports analyst Jason McIntyre, who recently expressed some interesting concerns about how the Longhorns utilized Manning during the 2024 campaign on an episode of The Herd.

“If Arch is so good, you couldn’t put in a passing package for the guy?” McIntyre asked in reference to the lack of passes he attempted in both the SEC Championship game and in the CFP last season. “The defense knows ‘Oh, he’s a running quarterback’ so maybe throw in a wrinkle? … I don’t want to say they’re hiding Arch, but I do have some mild concerns.”

While many may view McIntyre’s concerns as controversial, they are indeed valid questions to raise about a player who hasn’t really been tested in any serious way.

The talent and pedigree have always been there for Manning, but until he proves he’s capable of living up to the immense (albeit unfair) hype he’s garnered, there’s no real way to know if he is actually the guy everyone has been saying he is.

Manning and Texas will kick off against Ohio State on Saturday at 12 p.m. ET on FOX.
