Jason Witten is still very early in what could be a long coaching career, but he’s off to a great start.

Witten, who began his first year as Oklahoma‘s tight ends coach but is now the Sooners’ interim offensive coordinator, helped lead OU to an upset win over Florida in The Swamp on Saturday night.

Oklahoma’s offense has struggled mightily for much of the season, but the Sooners were effective in Gainesville. They averaged just 4.8 yards per play, but converted 10 3rd-downs and didn’t turn the ball over.

Witten also called a 20-play touchdown drive in the 4th quarter that consumed over 12 minutes of game time to secure the win.

After the game, Witten said the victory was perhaps the “greatest moment” he’s had during his football career.

“I’m sure there was a lot of people questioning coach Venables’ decision to go with me,” Witten said. “Just try to block out the noise and put your best foot forward. Tonight was pretty special. In all the years, I’ve been around football, maybe the greatest moment that I’ve had.”

Witten had a pretty special playing career in his own right with the Dallas Cowboys, earning 11 Pro Bowl nods in addition to the 2012 Walter Payton Man of the Year Award.

Witten and the Sooners will host Ole Miss in Week 11.
