Jayden Daniels releases statement: There are issues to be worked out with LSU

Jayden Daniels is gearing up for Year 3 of his professional career, but was the talk of the college football world on Thursday as news spread of his cease-and-desist letter to LSU regarding the use of his name, image and likeness. On social media, Daniels decided to address the matter to his followers.
“I have been locked in on training camp and that’s been my number one focus,” Daniels wrote in a note posted to his Instagram account. “I have a lot of gratitude for my time at LSU and I’m proud of what my teammates and I accomplished there. Obviously there are issues to be worked out between my team and LSU and my hope is that it will get done privately. My sole personal focus is on Commanders’ football. I realize the business of football is unique and I trust this can all be resolved.”

LSU cornerback DJ Pickett wearing No. 5 is reportedly the issue between Daniels and his former program. Pickett was promised No. 5 as a recruit, but former Tigers coach Brian Kelly declined to give the cornerback No. 5 when Daniels did not approve. First-year coach Lane Kiffin followed through on the request.
After his Heisman Trophy winning season at LSU, Daniels was selected No. 2 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft by the Washington Commanders. Daniels was the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2024 but had his 2025 season shortened to just 7 games due to injuries. The Commanders play the Miami Dolphins in preseason action on Friday.
