The Cleveland Browns already had a major off-the-field issue with a COVID-19 outbreak this week as they prepare for their first playoff game in 17 years, a matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Now Jedrick Wills Jr. has given them another.
The rookie former Alabama offensive lineman was cited for drag racing Tuesday along with teammate Rashard Higgins, according to police in Westlake, Ohio, according to a report from the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Wills responded to the news on Twitter, with a tweet late Tuesday night: “So nobody has ever tried to beat someone off the line at a red light for a max 30 meters? Ight.. Blowing it way out of proportion. Ik y’all road ragers have.”
The Plain Dealer report said Westlake police Capt. Gerald Vogel said both Wills, 21, and Higgins, 26, were cited in the same incident for first-degree misdemeanor drag racing. A Westlake police incident report says a marijuana joint was found in one of the cars but does not specify whose car. An officer destroyed the joint at the scene, and recorded it on his body camera, the incident report says. Neither Wills nor Higgins were charged with marijuana possession.
This is not the first time Wills has faced a traffic charge.
Wills was also cited on Nov. 29 for speeding in Fairview Park, according to court records. An Ohio State Highway Patrol trooper reported clocking Wills’ car at 82 mph in a 60 mph zone. He pleaded not guilty and the case is pending.
