Jeremiah Smith launches Heisman Trophy campaign with huge Week 1 performance

No. 1 ranked Ohio State enter the 2026 season looking to return to the top of the college football mountain after failing to defend their 2024 national championship last year.
Leading the way for the Buckeyes in this quest is none other than star wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, who many believe is the best player in all of college football and is expected to be heavily involved in the Heisman Trophy race.
Smith certainly believes that he has what it takes to bring college football’s highest individual honor back to Columbus, as he struck the iconic Heisman pose after hauling in his second touchdown of the day against Ball State.

Smith took the college football world by storm as a true freshman in 2024 when he hauled in a team-leading 76 passes for 1,315 yards and 15 touchdowns. He followed that performance up with an 87-catch, 1,234-yard, 13-touchdown campaign in 2025 that earned him unanimous All-American honors.
Now in what is likely to be his last year at the college level, Smith is looking to cement his legacy as one of the greatest Ohio State players in history.
If he can manage to bring home the Heisman Trophy this season, then he will not only have achieved that goal, but he could also go down as the greatest wide reciever in the history of the sport as well.
