Jerry Jones is ‘absolutely not’ confident Micah Parsons will play for Cowboys in Week 1

Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys are going to be the most talked about team in the NFL every year, but especially in the offseason.

The team over the past few years has made some questionable decisions when it comes to resigning their top players.

This year is no different as star pass rusher Micah Parsons is the latest Cowboys player to be in a contract dispute. He made headlines this week when he requested a trade, posting on social media that he no longer wanted to play in Dallas.

While the Cowboys say they have no plans to honor that trade request, a resolution doesn’t appear to be close, either. Jones was asked if he thinks Parsons will play in Week 1.

“No, absolutely not,” Jones told reporters. “A big part of that is his decision. How would I know that?”

He wouldn’t be the first player to sit out a game early in the season, as Kansas City Chiefs star defensive tackle Chris Jones did it 2 seasons ago. He sat out the opener against the Detroit Lions, and the Chiefs lost that game on a night when they were unveiling a Super Bowl banner. He signed a new deal with the Chiefs soon after.

The Cowboys open the season against the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles, and the Cowboys desperately need him on the field for that game. This saga doesn’t appear like it will be ending anytime soon, and Dallas could find itself in a situation similar to Kansas City.
