Texas A&M starting quarterback Haynes King had an up and down performance in his debut on Saturday against Kent State in a 41-10 win.

He threw 3 interceptions, but was ultimately 21-for-33 passing for 292 yards and 2 touchdowns.

โ€œHe overcame things,” coach Jimbo Fisher said. “Thatโ€™s how you measure things โ€ฆ I do. When things ainโ€™t all perfect, your first time out there you can create a lot of doubt on yourself. He didnโ€™t.”

As a whole, Fisher described the team’s performance as “sloppy,” but that the Aggies did enough to win the game.

Fisher admitted that King showed a maturity about the interceptions, and didn’t let them have a lingering effect in the way he played.

โ€œI thought he handled the adversity extremely well,” Fisher said. “His demeanor didnโ€™t change. Heโ€™s still throwing that ball between them hashes. A lot of times young guys, when they throw picks they donโ€™t want to go back in the middle of the field. They donโ€™t want to go back in that maze. It doesnโ€™t bother him. Heโ€™s a competitor.โ€
