Jimbo Fisher had a clear message regarding any detractors as No. 23 Texas A&M prepares for the regular season.
The Aggies are ranked despite finishing last season 5-7, which could lead to some questioning the validity of their case.
However, the veteran coach isn’t offended by any outside noise. Instead, Fisher is using it as a source of motivation for Texas A&M.
“People always doubt you, as an athlete you’re doubted every day. Every team out there’s the same way, people doubt you, makes it fun, it’s what competition’s about,” Fisher said. “I don’t worry what people think, I know what we can do and how we can have it, what we try to go to.”
Fisher included himself when it comes to those who deal with scrutiny in a resulted-oriented occupation. Fisher is still striving for another national championship after his lone title with Florida State a decade ago.
“Every coach is, you’re on a daily basis, it’s what you do for me lately, it’s what you do, every coach in the country is like that,” Fisher said. “If you slip up one time, it is what it is and that’s the part of the business you like.”
Fisher and Texas A&M will have a variety of opportunities to test themselves against the perceived top teams in the nation. The Aggies square off with No. 4 Alabama (Oct. 7), No. 12 Tennessee (Oct. 14), No. 22 Ole Miss (Nov. 4) and No. 5 LSU (Nov. 25).
Before all that, Texas A&M will focus its attention on the regular season opener vs. New Mexico State on Sept. 2.
