Joel Klatt blasts ‘painfully stupid’ CFP schedule

Joel Klatt ripped apart the 2026-27 College Football Playoff schedule, calling it “painfully stupid” and “awful.”

Back in early February, the CFP released its dates and bowl games for the CFP Quarterfinal and Semifinal games for the next two seasons. The quarterfinal games will take place on Dec. 30 and Jan. 1. The semifinal games will then be two weeks later on Jan. 14 and Jan. 15. This will all lead to the CFB National Championship on Jan. 25 in Las Vegas.

It’s a schedule that takes 7 weeks to get through 4 rounds, and Klatt, like many other CFB fans, is calling out the schedule.

“Painfully stupid is what that is. This format is awful. It does not help the fans. It does not help college football. It does not help coaches. It does not help the transfer portal. It does not help the calendar. It doesn’t help anything,” Klatt said. “We won’t play a championship until 50 days after Selection Sunday. Seven weeks to play four rounds. What are we doing?”

CFB fans have been calling for a change to the CFB calendar, and they won’t be getting it. Many of the same problems that plagued this season will still exist next year because no change is coming.
