Joel Klatt watched the Alabama and Florida State game with absolute shock as the Crimson Tide were dominated in the 31-17 loss. The Crimson Tide entered this game looking to show that they were a national title contender after last year’s 9-4 campaign.
That ended a streak of 16 seasons with at least 10+ wins, and put added pressure on Kalen DeBoer and the team as they entered Year 2. The performance that Alabama showed on Saturday has Klatt worried, and confused by what he watched.
“I am dumbfounded and panicked by Alabama,” Klatt said on his show. “Florida State beat them… badly in the effort game. Where was the effort, where was the pride? This was a program that had best players in the sport playing as if their life depended on it for 15 years. They would play like they were desperate for their next breath of air. They got manhandled by Florida State.”
There were other top teams that lost this weekend. Clemson, Notre Dame and Texas all suffered defeat in Week 1. The only difference there was those 3 teams played other top 10 teams and played in extremely competitive games.
As Klatt said, Florida State was a 2-win team last year that was looking to just show that it would go out and compete.
The seat for DeBoer is scorching hot now, as fans are calling for him to be fired. Losing a game is one thing, but having people across the country question effort and pride is something Alabama just isn’t used to experiencing.
The Crimson Tide will look for its first win of the 2025 season when it hosts Louisiana-Monroe in Week 2.
