Joel Klatt says Lane Kiffin would lose credibility if he left Ole Miss before the CFP

Joel Klatt didn’t mince words when discussing the Lane Kiffin rumors that have dominated the SEC coaching carousel.

With both the Florida and LSU jobs open — and Kiffin openly viewed as a top target — Klatt said on his show that leaving Ole Miss now, with the Rebels sitting at 10–1 and squarely in the College Football Playoff hunt, would be a significant hit to his reputation.

“How does Lane Kiffin leave Ole Miss in the middle of a playoff run, and have any credibility at his next place?” Klatt said, calling the entire situation “messy” as interest ramps up around the country.

Ole Miss finds itself one win away from closing out one of the best regular seasons in program history, with a real shot at the SEC title and a clear path to the CFP. Kiffin built this roster and reshaped the culture since he arrived to the program in 2020, and he has the Rebels positioned as one of the most dangerous teams in the country as November winds down.

Walking away right now, Klatt argued, would follow him.

Whether Kiffin ultimately entertains one of the open jobs or shuts the door completely, the timing is the entire storyline — and with Ole Miss chasing a postseason run they haven’t seen in the modern era, the noise isn’t slowing down.
