John Mateer just came away from Oklahoma’s win over Auburn with an all-time quote regarding former Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel.
Not sure about the correlation here? Well, it started when a reporter asked Mateer what he thought about the nickname “Money Mateer,” an obvious play on the nickname for former Heisman quarterback Johnny Manziel, “Money Manziel.”
Mateer joked that he doesn’t think he and Manziel are similar enough people for a nickname like Money Mateer. When asked what he believes the differences are between he and the former Heisman winner, Mateer simply said “I’m going to church in the morning.”
Just incredible.
Mateer can push back on the personal comparisons to Manziel all he wants, but he’s already drawn some interesting parallels on the playing field. Specifically, Mateer is an early frontrunner to win the Heisman trophy, which Manziel won in 2012 as a freshman – the first freshman to ever do so. As it currently stands, Mateer is +700 to win the Heisman on DraftKings – the best odds in the country.
Oklahoma has now beaten a pair of top 25 teams – Michigan and Auburn – thanks to Mateer’s prowess. The dual-threat quarterback has already thrown for over 1000 yards with 6 touchdowns on the season, while also rushing for 5 touchdowns and just under 200 yards on the ground.
