Jon Sumrall comments on WR injuries, possibility of Florida playing 2 QBs against Georgia
The Georgia Bulldogs and Florida Gators battle today in Atlanta. Their rivalry hasn’t ever lacked juice, but their matchup this afternoon has real stakes. Florida can thrust itself back into the thick of the College Football Playoff chase with a win. A Georgia victory would remind folks that SEC supremacy still runs through Athens.
Gators head coach Jon Sumrall called the Cocktail Party a “special occasion.” His team enters the contest a bit wounded on the offensive side, particularly at quarterback and wide receiver. Ahead of kickoff, he spoke with SEC Network’s Marty Smith about the possibility of Aaron Philo and Tramell Jones Jr. getting snaps on Saturday.

“The chance you’ll see them both is real… both have been on the injury report for a reason,” Sumrall said. “[We] have a lot of confidence in both guys, for them to be ready when their number is called.”
Whether Philo or Jones is on the field, Florida hopes to have receivers Vernell Brown III and Bailey Stockton for its passing attack. Brown hasn’t played since the Gators trounced the Ole Miss Rebels, but has worked hard to return to action. Stockton has played through injuries all year. Based on Sumrall’s comments, it seems like one man is more likely to play than the other.
“We’re hopeful for [Brown]. He’s obviously been out for three-and-a-half weeks… we’ll see if he’s ready to go at gametime,” Sumrall revealed. “Bailey Stockton has found a way to be available a lot. He’s been nicked and bumped and bruised the whole year. But he’s tough as nails and we’d be shocked if he doesn’t play.”
Florida (5-2, 3-2 SEC) and Georgia (6-1, 4-1 SEC) kick off at 3:30 p.m. ET (ABC).
