Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer had to be searching for solutions heading into halftime trailing Georgia 14-0 in Saturday’s SEC Championship Game, but he was quick to point out that a road to solving the Bulldogs did exist.
“Defense has been playing really good,” DeBoer told the Crimson Tide Sports Network radio audience as he departed the Mercedes-Benz Stadium playing surface. “Short field on the blocked punt, and then with the interception — the interception got good field position there. Got to find some rhythm in the offense.
“There’s plays to be made out there. We got to go make them.”
Ninth-ranked Alabama was able to do little against No. 3 Georgia in the first half, totaling just 71 yards against the Bulldogs and only driving past midfield once. Unfortunately for the Tide, that drive ended in a Ty Simpson interception at the Georgia 45.
Alabama was forced to punt 4 times by Georgia’s defense and only garnered 3 first downs in the game’s first 30 minutes. Simpson was particularly ineffective, completing just 5-of-12 pass attempts for 53 yards.
Georgia more than doubled up Alabama on offense, rolling up 168 total yards (88 rushing, 80 passing) with quarterback Gunner Stockton throwing short touchdown passes to Dillon Bell and Roderick Robinson II.
