Kalen DeBoer explains why drops are plaguing Alabama receivers

Alabama handled Wisconsin with ease, but the Crimson Tide’s receivers left some points on the field. Head coach Kalen DeBoer isn’t sugarcoating it.

The most glaring example? Ryan Williams dropping what should’ve been his third touchdown in this past Saturday’s 38-14 victory. The sophomore route-runner has 4 drops on the season, per PFF.

“Guys just have to continue to watch the ball all the way in,” Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer said Wednesday, per Nick Kelly of AL.com. “I think that’s a lot of it. I thought the ball was right where it needed to be. That’s just focus.”

Lotzeir Brooks has one, along with tight ends Jack Sammarco and Josh Cuevas. For context, only nine other SEC players even have multiple drops this year.

“These guys got great hands,” DeBoer said. “So it’s not about that. It’s about keeping your eyes on the football. Knowing that you can’t go anywhere without it. Just doing your job first, catching it, and let your ability go make the play afterward.”

While Bama rolled past the hurdles, those mistakes can quickly flip games when the margins shrink — like the Week 5 top-15 showdown at Georgia, who certainly will love to capitalize on those avoidable situations.
