Kentucky has ‘optimism’ for CJ Baxter’s availability vs. Oklahoma, per report

Kentucky is the talk of college football right now, as the Wildcats moved to 5-1 after beating LSU, 35-34, in overtime last week. A huge reason why they won the game was because of running back CJ Baxter, who finished with 123 yards and two touchdowns in the win.

What made the performance by Baxter even more impressive was that he was dealing with an injury that has his status questionable for the Week 7 matchup at Oklahoma. While his status is still unknown, the Wildcats are “optimistic” that he will be able to play on Saturday.

That’s according to On3’s Pete Nakos:

Baxter has been everything that Will Stein could have hoped for to start the year. He has 484 yards and eight touchdowns, and is tied for seventh in the country in rushing touchdowns. He is the perfect complement to quarterback Kenny Minchey and the passing game, as he forces defenses to have an extra guy in the box.

For the Wildcats, one positive is that Baxter’s backup, Jason Patterson, has proven to be a dynamic running back as well. He had 361 yards and three touchdowns, and helps form with Baxter one of the best running back duos in the SEC.

While the Sooners offense hasn’t been elite all year, there is no denying that the defense is as good as there is in the SEC. For the Wildcats to win this game, they are going to want to have all of their offensive weapons available and ready to go.
