Kentucky kicks off the season with a home contest vs. Youngstown State in Week 1. The Wildcats are coming off a 5-7 campaign, which was their second consecutive losing season.
However, it’s a new season with a new head coach (Will Stein), which provides the hope for a turnaround. Kentucky has revealed its uniform combo for the opener. The Wildcats will wear white helmets with blue jerseys and white pants against the Penguins.

Kentucky is 92-37-5 all time in season openers. The Wildcats enter on a 5-game winning streak in season openers. Kentucky has played Youngstown State, an FCS program, once before. In that lone contest, the Wildcats blanked the Penguins 31-0 on Sept. 17, 2022.
Youngstown State is ranked No. 9 in Stats Perform FCS top 25, so they could give Kentucky somewhat of a challenge. Which would be beneficial because the Wildcats’ schedule currently features games against 7 ranked opponents, beginning with a home contest against No. 13 Alabama on Sept. 12.
The 36-year-old Stein enters his first season as a head coach after most recently serving as Oregon’s offensive coordinator (2023-2025). It’ll be interesting to see how Kentucky’s offense performs in his debut.
Youngstown State at Kentucky will take place on Sept. 5 at 1 p.m. ET from Kroger Field (SEC Network+).
