Kentucky stuns No. 9 Texas A&M for Cats’ first SEC win of Will Stein era

Don’t sleep on the Kentucky Wildcats.
After succumbing to exhaustion in a loss to Alabama last week, Kentucky claimed a top 10 road win at Texas A&M with its best offensive game of the season thus far. The Wildcats produced 409 yards of total offense and played great situational football to dispatch the Aggies 31-21, earning Kentucky its first top 10 win since September of 2024 at Ole Miss.
Kentucky’s front owned the line of scrimmage on Saturday, paving the way for 21 unanswered points out of the halftime break. Will Stein‘s unit also won the turnover battle by picking off Aggies QB Marcel Reed twice while posting zero turnovers on offense.
Several Wildcats posted the best game of their college careers on Saturday, including QB Kenny Minchey. The Notre Dame transfer was nearly flawless, completing 14 of his 18 passing attempts (with a few simply unbelievable drops, mind you) for 252 yards and 2 touchdowns.
True freshman Kenny Darby accounted for a good portion of those 252 yards. The freshman receiver hauled in 2 big receptions on Saturday, including this 42-yard scoring play with some sweet moves after the catch to secure the touchdown.
Running back CJ Baxter, though, was perhaps the Player of the Game for Kentucky. The Texas transfer led all rushers on the evening, bulldozing his way for 2 touchdowns on 19 carries for 87 yards (4.6 yards per carry).
Kentucky is now 2-1 on the season and 1-1 in SEC play. The Cats get one more cupcake matchup next week against South Alabama before they continue their SEC slate on Oct. 3 at South Carolina.
