No. 12 Georgia went on the road in Week 6 and knocked off Kentucky 35-14. It was a solid bounce-back performance after last weekend’s 24-21 defeat against Alabama. However, Georgia head coach Kirby Smart is always looking for ways to improve.
Smart identified the secondary as a unit that can still make strides. Georgia allowed a pair of touchdown passes from Kentucky quarterback Cutter Boley. The Wildcats had 11 different players make receptions in the loss.
Smart is confident Georgia’s secondary will get better because of the constant work put in during practices.
“We’re a work in progress. We had some bad eye-control moments where guys don’t see what they’re supposed to see. They will work at getting better. We’re putting hands on people a little better. Getting balls down, 50/50 balls,” Smart said during his postgame press conference. “We’ve worked really hard on that and we’ve got to continue to do it. But I’m proud of the growth we’ve had and the development we’ve had.”
On the bright side, Ellis Robinson IV had an interception and Dominick Kelly tallied 2 pass deflections. Georgia will now have to gear up for a road contest at Auburn next weekend.
