Kirby Smart impressed with Ahkil Crumpton, touches on D’Andre Swift’s absence

JUCO transfer Ahkil Crumpton may have been a late addition to Georgia’s 2017 recruiting class, but he’s already making a huge impact for the Bulldogs.
The talented wide receiver and kick returner has been impressing coaches and teammates since he set foot on Georgia’s campus.
On Tuesday, according to a release from the school, coach Kirby Smart said Crumpton has showed great skill as a receiver and may be able to contribute at the position right away, even though the Bulldogs have a few talented receivers ahead of him on the depth chart:
“Blessing in disguise, because he’s really run great routes,” he said. “He’s really good in and out of breaks. He’s got great hands, big hands for a small guy. He snatches the ball out of the air. He plucks it. He’s done a really good job.
“The tough thing is, he’s in competition with Mecole (Hardman) some, Terry (Godwin) some, Mark Webb has worked in the slot some. So his specialty is returning, but he’s not a one-trick guy. The guy goes in there and does really well. I’ll tell you what now, he is physical and feisty. He doesn’t mind getting up in there and blocking and competing. He gets slung around sometimes, but it’s the fight in him that I’ve really enjoyed.”
Another first-year player who has stood out is freshman RB D’Andre Swift, but Swift missed Tuesday’s practice. Smart said he’s not concerned about the running back and expects him back on Wednesday:
“D’Andre was out today,” he said. “He was getting some medical things checked on. We expect him back tomorrow. Should be fine. He just had to get some things checked on.’’
