Football returns this week in Athens as Georgia’s spring practice is about to begin.

Coming off an SEC Championship, a National Championship Game appearance, and signing the nation’s No. 1 recruiting class, Kirby Smart’s program is rolling into 2018 like a full-speed train barrelling down the tracks.

Before the Dawgs hit the field for the first time this season, Smart met with the media for his introductory spring press conference. Here are the highlights of his Tuesday media availability:

  • OPENING COMMENTS: Georgia searching for new leaders, Nick Chubb, Sony Michel and Roquan Smith tough to replace. Takes more than talent to win, takes leadership.
  • OUT OF SPRING/INJURIES: OL Justin Shaffer, OL Sean Fogarty, RB Zamir White
  • Who will call the plays with Coley’s no co-OC title? Jim Chaney will continue to call the offensive plays
  • Impressions of QB Justin Field? Had outstanding offseason. I’m excited to see him practice.
  • On players that could step up and fill the leadership void lost from the departing senior class: OL Lamont Gaillard, WR Terry Godwin, DL Jonathan Ledbetter, LB D’Andre Walker
  • Status of Natrez Patrick? He’s still on the team. He’s done everything we’ve asked of him.
  • Status of Deangelo Gibbs? He is recovering and we expect him to be back and healthy in the fall.
