Kirby Smart reacts to Trevor Etienne’s selection in 2025 NFL Draft
Kirby Smart never misses a chance to congratulate one of his own for realizing their NFL dreams.
The Georgia head coach did it again on Saturday afternoon when former Georgia running back Trevor Etienne was selected by the Carolina Panthers in the fourth round. The Panthers grabbed Etienne with the 114th overall pick that they got from the Dallas Cowboys.
Etienne, the brother of Jacksonville Jaguars running back and former Clemson star Travis Etienne, spent the 2022 and 2023 seasons with SEC rival Florida before finishing his collegiate career last fall at Georgia. Trevor Etienne made the SEC All-Freshman Team with the Gators in 2022 and gave Kirby Smart’s powerhouse program a lift last fall by rushing for 609 yards and 9 touchdowns.
On Saturday, Smart returned the favor by writing a heartfelt message to Etienne on his social media account.
Here is Smart’s post:
Etienne, who is still just 20 years old as he enters the NFL with Carolina, will join a Panthers backfield that includes Chuba Hubbard and free agent signee Rico Dowdle. Still, Etienne has a real chance to follow his stellar college career in the SEC by challenging for playing time with Carolina.
As Saturday showed on social media, he has Smart’s love and support.
