Kirby Smart shares biggest takeaway from 2024 college football season
Kirby Smart was one of numerous current and former college football coaches to appear at the Regions Tradition Pro-Am on Wednesday.
While at the event, Smart went on the radio with Greg McElroy and Cole Cubelic to discuss a myriad of topics, including to reflect on the 2024 season. Smart was asked about what he learned last season given the new 12-team CFP format as well as the arrivals of Texas and Oklahoma into the SEC.
Smart chose to focus his answer on the length of the college football season during this new era.
“It’s a grueling experience,” Kirby Smart said. “It’s longer than I remember it being mainly because you have that lingering playoff where there’s not this big layoff. So it’s just different than it’s ever been. You have to anticipate a longer season than you ever have before.”
Here’s a clip from the interview on McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning:

The 12-team CFP means there are now 2 additional rounds for teams to prepare for. UGA received a first-round bye last season thanks to its win over Texas in the SEC Championship Game.
Georgia will be hoping to make an even deeper run in the College Football Playoff next season.
