Kirk Herbstreit has been vocal what he thinks about Texas A&Mโ€™s backup QB, Marcel Reed.

With Aggiesโ€™ starting QB Connor Weigman sidelined for Saturdayโ€™s SEC clash with Florida, Texas A&M has turned to Reed and the dual-threat signal caller has had a fast start.

Reed is 9-of-12 for 103 yards and a touchdown through the air, while picking up 30 yards with 2 carries as the Aggies lead the Gators (10-0) at the end of the first quarter. The game was delayed due to lightning in the area but recently re-started.

Herbstreit took to social media to give a shoutout to the Aggiesโ€™ QB after his hot start on Saturday.

โ€œTry to warn people Marcel is a BALLER,โ€ Herbstreit posted on X. โ€œOne of those guys that plays better in games. I think heโ€™s the real deal. Glad to hear heโ€™s playing well.โ€

On Saturday morning, Herbstreit made a point to praise Reed on ESPNโ€™s College GameDay, noting that heโ€™s followed the Texas A&M QBโ€™S journey and he could actually give the Aggies an advantage over Florida.

โ€œI just happen to know the kid behind [Weigman]…Marcel Reed. I almost think that might be an okay thing for Texas A&M,โ€ Herbstreit said on College GameDay Saturday morning. โ€œIf A&M gets a chance to have Marcel Reed turn it loose, he can create, he can make plays with his arm. That might actually be a good thing for them.โ€

Reed has limited experience playing at the collegiate level, but shined when he was given an opportunity to play for Texas A&M in the Texas Bowl against Oklahoma State. Reed finished the game passing for 361 yards and added a touchdown with his legs.

247Sports listed Reed as the No. 20 QB in the country of the 2023 class.
