KJ Lacey is set on playing in the SEC. The blue-chip Class of 2025 quarterback from Alabama has committed to play for Steve Sarkisian’s Texas program.

Lacey, a Saraland (Alabama) standout, shared the big news on Saturday via his Twitter account.

Lacey’s Hudl highlight tape (below) lists his measurements as 6-1, 180 pounds. On the 247Sports composite rankings, Lacey is rated 4-stars, the No. 5 quarterback, No. 8 Alabama product and No. 70 prospect overall nationally in the 2025 recruiting class.

In his recruitment, Lacey has picked up scholarship offers from 29 programs, including Alabama, Auburn, Mississippi State, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas A&M. He pledged to the Longhorns on a return visit to Austin.

Impact of Lacey’s commitment

Lacey is Texas’ first commitment for 2025. While the 2024 class is next to sign in December, it’s still a big deal for the Longhorns to have Lacey on board.

Quarterbacks tend to be natural leaders, whether it’s on the football field or the recruiting trail. Sarkisian’s staff can’t ask for much better help than a blue-chip QB pitching top prospects to join him in Austin.

Ideally, Lacey will assemble a strong supporting cast on offense and defensive talent will take notice of what Texas is building for the future. We’ll see how it plays out over the next 18 months.
