Kyle Pitts gets the best of top-5 pick Sauce Gardner in joint practices

Ahmad “Sauce” Gardner was a highly-touted prospect coming out of Cincinnati and there’s a reason he went No. 4 overall in the 2022 NFL Draft. But there’s no sugarcoating the fact he was humbled by former Florida Gators tight end Kyle Pitts in joint practices between the New York Jets and the Atlanta Falcons.
From a pure football perspective, the meeting between the two on this play hardly went the way Gardner wanted it to.

There’s no need to jump to conclusions on this, though. It’s one single play involving a rookie transitioning to the NFL and the sheer talent and ability Pitts himself brings to the table should also be taken into account.
Pitts embarrassed several defensive players in his time in the SEC — including some of the most praised across the nation — so this is not a one-time thing. The tight end finished out his time in Gainesville with a total of 100 receptions for 1,492 yards and 18 touchdowns.
As is already showing up on the practice field, this is a player whose college success should be fully expected to translate to the NFL.
