LSU head coach Lane Kiffin publicly reacted to safety Deshawn Spears quickly changing his mind on entering the transfer portal before its Friday opening.

Spears initially had entered the portal and was planning to leave the LSU Tigers. After a couple of hours, it was later reported by 247Sports’ Matt Zenitz that Spears had changed his mind and would be staying at LSU. It seemed that Spears changed his mind after spending a couple of hours talking with the LSU staff.

Kiffin responded to the news by posting to his X account, saying, “Happy new year!! Just getting started. Can’t wait tell midnight in BR.”

Spears has spent the majority of his LSU tenure as a backup. In two years, Spears has totaled 53 total tackles, 3 passes defended, 1 sack, and 2 interceptions. He has shown promise, though, and will be a big part of Kiffin’s defense.

Kiffin also reposted a post that Spears put out of a tiger wading through the water.

It’s clear that Spears is all in on being a tiger under Kiffin.

Spears’ best game came this year against Florida when he brought in 2 interceptions for 70 yards and brought one to the house for a touchdown.
