Lane Kiffin reportedly won’t coach Ole Miss in Playoff; Rebels have interim coach in mind
The ongoing Lane Kiffin saga in Oxford has captivated the college football world throughout the weekend, and new details continue to be revealed.
With the Ole Miss head coach reportedly having already made his decision to move to Baton Rouge, the Rebels’ program has had to begin making plans for the future.
Of course, the immediate weeks will see Trinidad Chambliss & Co. take part in the College Football Playoff, likely hosting the first-ever CFP game held in Oxford.
But according to reports by CBSSports’ Matt Zenitz, it is unlikely that Kiffin will be on the sidelines for Ole Miss’ playoff run, with him set to move on to LSU. Instead, the current belief is that defensive coordinator Pete Golding will not follow Kiffin to Baton Rouge and will instead take over the interim head-coach role.
Early speculation has also led some to believe that Golding will have a strong chance at securing the permanent head-coaching gig, with his team’s performance in the CFP likely serving as an audition for the role.
Just 41 years of age, Golding began his coaching career at Delta State, Tusculum and Southeastern Louisiana before landing jobs with Southern Miss and UTSA. The Hammond, La. native then served as defensive coordinator/linebackers coach at Alabama from 2018-2022 before he took on the same role in Oxford.
