In classic Lane Kiffin fashion, he offered a deadpanned review of the most celebrated touchdown of Ole Miss’ Grove Bowl on Saturday.

Talking with SEC Network+ broadcasters, Kiffin said the thing that put a smile on his face was the late touchdown by TE Jonathan Hess, because Kiffin said Hess told him, “He came up to me at the end and said his parents are going to be so happy, never thought he’d ever score.”

In a festive environment, strength and conditioning coach Wilson Love went to a dunk tank after the game because his was the coach on the losing end. Monte Kiffin was on the other side from a coaching standpoint.

“I don’t know who’s going in, but I assume the head coach that didn’t win,” Lane Kiffin said. “I hope it’s not my dad because he’s a little too old to go in.”

Lane Kiffin then turned to the 2021 season.

“I hope that we play better defense, obviously,” Kiffin said. “Which we did at times today, and we don’t turn the ball over. And if we do that, we’ll be in a lot of games and learn how to win in our second year.”

Early in the SEC Network+ stream, Kiffin reviewed the 2020 season and looked ahead to this coming campaign.

“Win the games in the fourth quarter like we should’ve, like LSU, like Auburn, we had the ball, put the games away,” Kiffin said.
