Lane Kiffin will always find an opportunity to troll on social media, especially when it involves one of his former teams.
With No. 21 Ole Miss slated to start the season at home vs. Georgia State on Aug. 30, Kiffin had ample material to taunt Tennessee. As a motivational strategy for Ole Miss fans and dig at the Vols, Kiffin posted a picture with the final score when Georgia State upset Tennessee 38-30 in its 2019 season opener.
That loss to Georgia State foreshadowed a difficult season for Tennessee, who ended up 7-5 overall and 5-3 in the SEC before they vacated their conference victories because of recruiting violations. Some Vols fans were likely longing for another Lane Kiffin tenure on Rocky Top.
Kiffin coached just one season at Tennessee, going 7-6 in 2009. Kiffin is entering his sixth season at Ole Miss after resurrecting his career at Florida Atlantic. Under Kiffin, Ole Miss has won at least 10 games 3 times (2021, 2023, 2024) with no losing seasons.
Ole Miss wrapped up a 10-3 campaign last season with a 52-20 rout vs. Duke in the Gator Bowl.
This is the first-ever matchup between Ole Miss and Georgia State. The game is set to kick off at 7:45 p.m. ET and will be televised on the SEC Network.
