One of the biggest topics of conversation following the Michigan sign-stealing saga has been radios in helmets.

While the NFL allows one-way communication devices in players helmets, the NCAA prohibits it. Now, it seems that could change in the near future.

Several coaches gave their thoughts on a possible change to allow radios in helmets during the SEC coaches teleconference on Wednesday, including Lane Kiffin.

Kiffin hadn’t thought about it much until recently.

“I haven’t given much thought on that because every time that’s come up for a lot of years and seems to get shot down every time,” Kiffin said. “So I really haven’t given much thought to it. We basically do everything the NFL does first, and then we eventually catch up. It’s a long time overdue.”

Kiffin believes that the NCAA hasn’t allowed them because of a multitude of concerns, from financial concerns to agreements among conferences, but in light of the sign-stealing investigation, he thinks a change might be coming.

“I think initially there were concerns that a conference couldn’t make a rule because you had non-conference games and there were financial concerns for smaller schools, but that was a long time ago, I’m old now,” Kiffin said. “Been around these meetings for a long time. And everybody’s usually been in favor of it and then meetings and then SEC meetings from coaches. I don’t know that answer why it hasn’t ever gone through. I’m sure now that there’s a glaring story out there now they’ll react and do it.”
